Lounging in front of hotel AC,

On the outskirts of Little Rock
and Memphis-bound,
solo in a room with two double-beds.
I’ve somehow managed to drop out
of the lives of nearly
everyone I know,
with the exception of the TV
and the mosquito.

It’s a smoking room.
Almost wish I had a pack
of cigarettes to burn through
in this lonesome, glorified rest stop.

I wonder what the Alamo ghosts
think of the gift shop.
